#FreeSamuelOgundipe Trends On Twitter After SARS Arrest Premium Times Reporter - Crime -

A Premium Times reporter Samuel Ogundipe was arrested earlier today by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS over the refusal to disclose the source of one of the stories he reported.

The Police has since frozen his bank account just some moment after his arrest and detention.

Now notable Nigerians have taken to the social media platform, twitter to call for his release and the #FreeSamuelOgundipe hashtag is already trending on the platform.

Among the people calling for his immediate release is Japhet Omojuwa, who tweeted:

The Police is clearly using bullying tactics to try to stifle the journalist. If they have a case against him, go to court. This a set back against press freedom. No surprise, na SARS! To start with, fire this IG. All he does is block Danube street with his security.

They want to shut down Social Media, silence Journalists, have their lackeys in charge of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is never going to work #FreeSamuelOgundipe

Reno Omokri also rendered his voice in the campaign

Dear @ProfOsinbajo, On the same day you ordered the police to overhaul SARS, SARS still arrested Samuel Ogundipe, a @PremiumTimesng journalist because of a story. Please consider this as evidence that SARS needs to be scrapped and not overhauled. #EndSARS
