2023 Election: Reactions As Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Sprays Money On Residents From SUV

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has come under heavy criticism for spraying money at residents of his states, while he was being driven in a convoy through a cheering crowd. Bala Mohammed during the weekend caused a chaotic scene during his visit to Azare town where threw money at residents. The Governor who was being hailed by the crowd stood up through the open roof of his SUV and sprayed naira at a happy crowd. This act is actually against the Nigerian law Section 21 (3,4,5) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007 clearly prohibits any form of abuse of the Nigerian currency. The Act prescribes “imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less than N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment for anyone guilty of spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank during social occasions. Abuja court halts EFCC’s investigation of Benue accounts

ABUJA—Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from conducting further investigations into the finances of Benue State.

The court directed the anti-graft agency to suspend action, pending the determination of the suit that was lodged before it by the Benue State Government.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, who sat as a vacation judge, gave the preservative order on a day EFCC honoured a summon the court issued it on August 9, following allegation that it froze Benue State’s accounts.
The former vacation judge, Justice Babatunde Quadri, had, after listening to submissions by counsel to Benue government, Mr. Emeka Etiaba(SAN), ordered EFCC to appear in court to explain why it took the action.
However, shortly after the summon was issued, the anti-graft agency defroze the accounts.
Meanwhile, though EFCC appeared in court yesterday through its lawyer, Mr. Slyvanus Tahir, Justice Dimgba said there was need for him to study the case file that was transferred to him.

While adjourning the case till August 29, Justice Dimgba warned that none of the parties should take any action capable of destroying the subject matter of the suit.
Even though the action was instituted in Makurdi, the plaintiff secured leave for the matter to be heard by the vacation judge in Abuja since courts in Benue are currently on recess.
Aside the EFCC, other respondents in the suit are the Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, the Clerk Benue of State House of Assembly, Benue State House of Assembly and the Auditor General of Benue State.
